Oris watch illustration commission

I was recently asked by Northstar, a design agency based in London, to produce a series of illustrations for a brand book. The project involved creating about 15 illustrations that will appear in the Lexicon of Oris Watches’ latest global brand book, also a further 3 larger illustrations that will be part of a double page spread explaining the workings of their new depth gauge.

All the illustrations are black line and were produced in Adobe Illustrator from photographs. I’ll hopefully be getting my hands on a copy of the finished book. I’ll post some more when I do.

Trading in my old Nikon D50 for the Olympus OM-D

I decided, after a huge amount of indecision, to sell all the Nikon gear that I had accumulated over the years and switch over to Micro 4/3, in an attempt to revive my flagging interest in photography.

The problem had been, for a long time, that I was fed up with lugging around a big DSLR and a big heavy lens/lenses, to the point where I just wasn’t taking my gear with me. For years I had an old NIkon D50, which in itself wasn’t too cumbersome but attached to it was, for the most part because of it’s versatility, a Nikon 18-200mm VR zoom lens, which was huge and also weighed a ton. Micro 4/3 had been around for a while but none of the cameras available really took my fancy. That was until the Olympus OM-D appeared and straight way I wanted one. Everything seemed right. The size, the image quality and the price wasn’t too steep but would it do the same job as a DSLR? All the reviews pointed to the fact that it could, so I finally decided that best thing to do was just to bite the bullet and make the switch.

The order went in for a silver OM-D with the 12-50mm kit lens. I ordered from digitalrev.com, who I had bought stuff off in the past and the service had always been good, also they had the best price by far and they were one of the few places that actually had the camera in stock, as it had not long been released. The old Nikon D50, 4 lenses and a flash gun all went on ebay and didn’t have any trouble getting the prices I was looking for. The money made from the Nikon gear more than covered the cost of the new OM-D.
